«How often do you clean the windows?» ? We get asked this a lot ? Our dome has about 400 windows and we clean it every spring. On the inside that is. We have never cleaned the outside, the snow does the job! After a whole winter of slow sliding snow the outside of the dome is always cleanest in the spring. ❄️☀️ Another FAQ is how do you reach all the windows? We always start by using a pressure washer all over to remove most of the dust before starting to clean by hand. We reach most of the windows as we’re standing by the dome wall, as the house has two verandas – one on the second floor and one on the roof top. For the rest we use a telescope window cleaner. We don’t use any soap, only water. The job doesn’t take as long as one would imagine, it’s quite alright once we get started. A days work all in all ✨ @instantyogi #geodesicdome #greenhouse #greenhouselife #naturhuset #ecoliving #greenhome #ecohomes #housecleaning #vaskedilla

A҉T҉ F҉U҉L҉L҉ S҉P҉E҉E҉D҉ I҉N҉T҉O҉ T҉H҉E҉ F҉U҉T҉U҉R҉E҉ I’ll answer a few frequently asked questions about #naturhuset ✨ We designed and built it ourselves, with lots of help from friends and family. ✨ The house is 240 m2, the greenhouse (the dome) is 176 m2. Is cost 3100000 NOK (348 741,72EURO) to build (the land included) and that is about half the price of a regular, new house in Norway. It was cheap because we built it ourselves & chose materials like clay, sand and straw. ✨ We got a regular loan in the bank and I have no problem with having debt. The alternative would be to rent someone elses house, and not living our dream now. I have never seen a loan as a burdon or a problem – I see it as a blessing and a privilege. A way to manifest dreams and make magic happen. ✨ We’re not off grid, even though lots of magazines have claimed that we are. We have never said we’re off grid, but the house is mainly heated by solar collectors & wood fire. The tap water is as well. We can still heat the house & tap water + cook on the wood stove if the power is out. The plan is to eventually go completely off grid. ✨ It took us 1,5 years to build the house. I was finishing my bachelor in nursing as we started building, and we both worked regular jobs during the process. We worked on the house on our free time. ✨ The house still isn’t finished. We’ve lived here for 6 years. ✨ Yes it is true magic living in this house, every day I appreciate it very much. The house feels like part of me. ✨ It doesn’t get too hot in the summer. We have passive, natural ventilation. Two upcycled pipes (45 meters long) are buried under ground and take in fresh air from down by the sea. They come in to the dome at the bottom, and when we open the vents at the top, cool air is being sucked in to the dome. This works really well, and it helps keep the greenhouse dry. It also warms the air in the dome during winter as the temperature under ground (usually) is higher than outside. ✨ The dome is designed and build by @solardome_ltd and is the only part of the building we did not do ourselves. #arcticlife #northernnorway #nordnorge #dreamhome #geodesicdome #architecturelovers #ecohome
